CCTV Cameras to be installed at AG Square

The commissionerate of police have taken another step towards controlling the traffic of Bhubaneswar by installing CCTV cameras at various high traffic areas like AG Square to keep an eye on the traffic violators. The Odisha State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation will take over the project which will cost around 60 Lakh. The project will be called as “Intelligent Traffic Management System”. The commissionerate of police have also proposed to install surveillance cameras across the populated areas of the city.

The CCTV Cameras which will be used in Intelligent Traffic Management System would be completely different from the Surveillance Cameras. The CCTV Cameras will focus on capturing the number plates of the vehicle. The captured images of the violators will be automatically sent to the Traffic Control Room which will be set up at the Police Commissionerate Office, Bhubaneswar, said Mr. Satyajit Mohanty, CMD of the Odisha State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation.

The CCTV Cameras will be fitted beneath the Zebra Crossing to focus on the number plates of the vehicles. These high frequency CCTV cameras will be activated automatically whenever the red signal will come. If anyone tries to break the signal the CCTV Cameras will capture the images of the number plates of the violating vehicles.

The working principles of the CCTV Cameras are clear but some people also questioned how it will be different from the surveillance cameras. The surveillance cameras will be installed at AG Square which can easily track the vehicles which will violet the traffic rules. So what is point of installing another CCTV Cameras which will cost more than 60 Lakh. And the fine for a traffic signal breaker is just rupees 500/-. Why such a miss use of money if only one surveillance camera can keep an eye on everything? 

The traffic police said that the new technology of installing CCTV Cameras will help them regulate the traffic easily on the busy areas like AG Square. And people will also think twice before breaking a traffic signal as they are being captured under two cameras. With all these new technologies and security systems let’s see how the common people will get the maximum benefit out of it.
