Ring Road in Bhubaneswar

The vehicular traffic in Bhubaneswar has now become a huge headache for the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA). With the increasing number of vehicles in the city, the roads are not just enough for a smooth and trouble free transportation. Traffic posts are increasing day by day but it seems that does not have an effect on the transportation. Rather it creates more and more traffic jam in certain areas. Even though NHAI has started the over bridge project in the main traffic squares on the NH-5, i.e. from Fire Station square to Rasulgard square, but this will not be helpful for the inner areas in the city. The Ring road project will start from Pandra and will continue till Daya Bridge with a distance of more than 13 km. The Bhubaneswar Development Authority is also planning to widen the roads of the city along with developing public transport corridors. The public works development (PWD) failed to work as the BDA don’t have proper planning for the Ring road.

It has been seen that the Ring road project started near Pandra and the road is parallel to the NH-203. This will help people to directly take the road to Daya Bridge from Pandra. The Ring road project will encircle the main arterial road of the city which will helpful in making better communication. The Ring road will also act as a shield against flood water in rainy season. After the Ring road in Cuttack, this is the second Ring road in Odisha. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik  has put the foundation stone for this Ring road project on 6th February 2011.

The Ring road project will not just develop the roads in Odisha but also the Real Estate business. More construction work will start near the Ring road areas as market demand for that area will increase after the completion of the Ring road project. The estimated time for finishing the Ring road was 2013, but it does not seem to end before 2014. The 13 km long Ring road project was estimated approximately 35 Crore. As soon as the BDA will finalize the plan, the project work will continue. BDA planning member Prashant Kumar Patnaik said that the planning for the Ring road has started and notification has been sent for planning proposals from planning organizations.  And they were planning to construct wide road of at least 100 ft, so that the traffic will be less.

The Ring road project is the only way to decrease the traffic jams in Bhubaneswar. The Ring road will decrease the traffic by nearly 30% in Bhubaneswar.

  1. It’s a very good project to keep track of the traffic problem of the city. Thanks to BDA to plan this Ring Road project.
